Be Patient...

It takes about 60 pages or so to figure out what is going on and decide you want to keep reading this book; after that, it's just about as hard to put down as one of the Twilight books.  No doubt, it's a VERY different story than any of the books in the Twilight series; but, I've decided Stephenie Meyer is just a good writer/story teller.  I like her stuff.  Now if only we could get her to publish something else.  It's summer and I'm ready for more.

Tyler Turns 1!

I can't believe it!  The little guy is already one!  This weekend, I took a long weekend and headed out to D.C. to celebrate Tyler's first birthday with Eric and Sheree.  The trip was fun, but way too short.  Still, I wouldn't have missed it for the world!  Here are some photos from the celebration.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

I flew home to Modesto for 24 hours this weekend for my sister-in-law Cindy's baby shower on Saturday. (For my Modesto readers, it was held at the Sherwood Forest pool.) It was a quick trip, but well worth it! I cannot wait to have a neice!
Cindy has been the secretary in the Young Women's program at church, so we invited the Young Women and their mom's. The girls had so much fun and LOVED all of the gifts!

Cindy is taking the picture, so she's not sitting at the table with us...Aunt Holly, Aunt Stephanie, Emily, me, and Cindy's mom Penny.

Melissa and I were in charge of the games. This was baby Jeopardy.

These are 2 of the gifts in my gift bag...I didn't get the quilt finished in time for the shower, but I did manage to do enough shoppin to be out of control and I got the fleece done.

Earthquake, Part 2

Yep...there was another earthquake this afternoon.  This one was a 4.0...started with a kind of jolt/crash noise and then shook for a few seconds.  Makes you wonder what's in store!

I've never been a huge fan of earthquakes.  Tonight didn't really add to my enjoyment of them.  Let's just say the cake plates no longer reside on top of the china cabinet.  Not sure where they are going to live, but it will be somewhere much safer and less likely to result in a pile of glass.

The quake, which the USGS reported earlier as magnitude-5.0, struck at 8:39 p.m. Its epicenter was about two miles northeast of Hawthorne, according to the USGS.

The rumbling lasted about 10 to 15 seconds. Shaking was felt throughout the Los Angeles area and as far south as San Diego.

NBCLA.com visitors reported feeling the jolt in Burbank, Pomona, San Bernardino and other areas.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

A magnitude-3.1 aftershock was reported at about 8:45 p.m.

In El Segundo, burglar alarms were triggered and the Chevron refinery had a "burnoff," when excess refinery gases were burned, said Sgt. Mike Gill of the El Segundo Police Department. Burnoffs are standard procedure after an earthquake, Gill said.

The city fire department went on "earthquake emergency mode," although there was no damage reported, according to police and fire officials. Fire engines at stations in the quake area were initially taken out of their garages as a precaution but were later returned.

Officials at Los Angeles International Airport, which is near the epicenter, released a statement saying, "Operations are normal and there are no flight delays following preliminary inspections of terminals, the airfield, Sepulveda Tunnel and other areas of the LAX Central Terminal Area."

A similar statement was issued by officials at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana in Orange County.

Disneyland 2009

The week after Easter was the bi-annual trip to Disneyland with the Managans.  We had so much fun!  I met them at John Wayner Airport on Tuesday and off we went to check into the hotel and enjoy an afternoon in the park.  We spent Wednesday and Thursday sleeping in and leisurely heading over for days two and three.  Friday and Saturday were spent in LA hanging out at my place, going to Venice Beach, the American Girl Doll Star, a movie, Tito's Tacos, etc.  It was a great week!!!

Jack Turns 2

Jack's 2nd birthday was on April 13th. I went home to Modesto for Easter weekend to celebrate Jack's birthday. I cannot believe he's that old! Where does time go? He's such a little boy and so not a baby any more.

Obviously, the birthday party had a Thomas the Tank Engine/Train team. Jack LOVES his trains...but, especially "Tommy."
